Is mountaineering and rock climbing safe?

There are inherent dangers in every extreme sport, but with the correct safety precautions, training and equipment, those dangers are mitigated.

What if we do not have the skills to complete the trip?

Prior to each trip, we make sure each party member meets the necessary requirements to accomplish the goal and have fun.

How do I know I can trust Oregon Jewish Mountaineers?

We are a very intimate organization and getting to know us over the phone and in person will assure you that we are the right choice.

What skills do I need to hire you as guides?

There are no skill requirements to hire us. We will tailor a trip to meet your desires and give you unforgettable experiences!

Is there a minimum age requirement for your trips?

No, we love kids and can plan or guide unbelievable trips for yours.

Is there Kosher Food in Oregon?

It's not quite New York, but you can survive. We work with a local kosher caterer and can organize food to meet your needs.

Do you climb with a Minyan?

We only need 8 more! Generally, groups are small so, no. However, there is a daily Minyan in Portland and if you want to Daven with a Minyan 3 times a day, we can go on thrilling day trips while based in Portland.

Is there a bathroom?

Once you leave the road you can pretty much count on no toilet. This is one of the sacrifices you need to make in the wilderness.

Is climbing hard?

Every mountain, climb, or hike presents different challenges. We assess all possible outcomes for a trip and plan according to the group. One foot in front of the other, no matter how small, is the goal.

Can women climb mountains?

They can, and they do. Unfortunately, due to halachic restrictions, we can only plan itineraries and not guide women-only trips.

Who answers your halachic questions?

Regarding halachic decisions we consult with Rabbi Tzvi Fischer, the Rosh Kollel of Portland.
